Reggaefest 2011
Posted by Byron Movement on 2013-01-11 15:34:52.0

Reggaefest Roots and Culture Music Festival – September 17 & 18 – is set to be a magical weekend. The festival site is in the beautiful outdoors with plenty of grassy spots to relax in the sunshine, beside a sandy beach and clear blue water where the river meets the ocean. It’s the perfect location for a grassroots festival with a vision of creating not only a music festival but a celebration of music, art, workshops, family, food, craft, culture and community.

There’ll be twenty-two hours of live music across two stages, a vibrant marketplace, arts and cultural workshops, a starlight cinema, activities and craft for kids as well as displays from local artists.

With a team of local people organising the festival and involvement from major community, culture and environmental groups such as Byron Movement, BSANE (anti CSG mining group), Sea Shepherd, KulchaJam and the Bunjum Aboriginal Co-Operative, Reggaefest is taking festival going back to its roots. The weekend is a forum for arts, culture and creativity – a place where all people can come together.

The lineup includes a diverse mix of artists – from the era of ska and rocksteady, the legendary 71-year-old Stranger Cole (Jamaica), ARIA award nominees King Tide, Australia’s king of dubstep/electronica Spoonbill and Indigenous Australian hip hop/reggae outfit from Bulwai Country,Zennith. This is just a taste so check the website for full lineup, camping and accommodation and more info.
